Your Exciting New Way to Experience 4-H!

4-H BC, in conjunction with BC Dairy, is excited to offer 4-H@Home—a fun, hands-on way for youth to experience 4-H through online projects. Open to BC youth aged 9–17, participants can join from anywhere in the province, whether or not there’s a local 4-H club nearby. Current members and newcomers alike are welcome!

4-H@Home features engaging 6-week projects with 1–1.5 hour online sessions, offering beginner-friendly introductions to a variety of 4-H-inspired topics. Youth of diverse abilities are welcome, with parent/guardian support as needed. Sign up today and discover a project you’ve been curious about!

Discover Dairy Project

STARTS May 20th FOR 6 WEEKS 4PM-5PM PST

The Discover Dairy project will take participants on a journey through the complete dairy cycle. Participants will have the unique opportunity to meet real dairy farmers, learn about essential cow care practices, understand how milk travels from farm to fridge, and even dive into the basics of cheese tasting and more!

Who can register?

The Discover Dairy project is perfect for youth aged 9 – 15 who are curious about farm life in BC, and how our food makes its way from the farm to our tables. No cow or prior knowledge is required—just a passion for learning and exploration!

  • Lesson 1 | May 20th

    In this fun-filled lesson, we're diving into the world of dairy cows! You’ll discover all the different breeds of cows and learn about their body parts—like what makes them great milk makers! We’ll explore the dairy cow's life cycle and find out exactly when they start producing milk. Then, to wrap up the evening, we’re making some delicious homemade ice cream that you can enjoy!

    Ever wonder what a dairy cow’s day is like? Come join us for an exciting adventure as we explore the cows home live on a real BC dairy farm! You’ll get to see how these amazing animals are cared for and what their daily routine looks like—from breakfast to bedtime. And the best part? You’ll be able to ask the farmer anything that’s on your mind! Whether it’s about the cows’ super comfy barns or how they stay happy and healthy, this tour is packed with cool insights and fun facts.

  • Lesson 3 | June 3rd

    Ever wondered how milk goes from the cow to your fridge? Get ready to follow the moo-velous journey of milk! In this fun and fascinating lesson, you'll discover how farmers "collect" fresh milk and how it gets safely transported and processed. We’ll talk about all the yummy products milk turns into, from butter to yogurt, and discuss the important role of milk quality and food safety. Plus, you’ll get a virtual tour of a real creamery to see how cheese is made—then we’ll wrap up with a delicious cheese tasting! Get ready to explore the world of milk in ways you never imagined—and taste some amazing cheese along the way!

  • Lesson 4 | June 10th

    What’s on the menu? Come join us as we explore the foods that dairy cows love to eat! We’ll talk about how important it is for cows to have a balanced diet—just like us—so they can stay healthy and produce delicious milk. You’ll also discover the superpower of a cow’s digestive system! Learn all about their unique stomach compartments and how they can break down food in ways that are totally different from ours. It’s going to be a fun and “digesting” journey as we unlock the secrets behind what makes cows such efficient eaters!

    In this exciting lesson, you’ll learn all about the other awesome opportunities in 4-H where you can continue exploring dairy and animal care!

  • Lesson 6 | June 24th

    In the final lesson, you’ll hear firsthand from 4-H members themselves about their experiences and how you can get involved. Then, we’ll wrap up the session with a fun game of Dairy Jeopardy to test your new knowledge—who will be the ultimate dairy expert?
